Chapala Fortress

Chapala Fortress– Is located near the village Chapala, Bolnisi municipality, Kvemo Kartli region. At the right side of confluence of the rivers Mashavera and Bolnisistskali.

Chapala fortress is built on the cliff gorge, which is rising in the valley. In the history it is mentioned in 1664 year, when the king Vakhtang V gifted the fortress to Elizbar Sologhashvili. In the 1749 it was bought by the lord Dimitri Orbeliani. To our days is saved the upper fortress and a yard with different buildings in it surrounded with a wall. During the archaeological excavations were found the different buildings, water storage(XI-XII). At the bottom of the fortress are the remains of the village and two churches. Near the fortress, on the river Mashavera is XVII century arch bridge.
