Chiora

Chiora - Village in Georgia, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region Oni municipality, community center.

History

According to the oral tradition, at first, the Chiora population lived around the mountain of the Pasi. Here, they were oppressed by Tartarian (tribes of the north). Therefore, the chiora population have asked Ghebi people permission for resettling. The Ghebi people gave them a chose where to settle. The Chiora people have asked them to settle down on the place where there is a lot of "mtsiori" (also know as a fox, marten, rabbit, and such animals). The Ghebi people gave them this place and that’s why the village has the name of chiora.
