Gomareti (Chochiani) Sepia-Anthony's Throne (Tamar's Altar)

The Gomareti (Chochiani) Sepia-Anthony Shrine (Tamaris Samtsirvelo) is located in Kvemo Kartli, near the village of Gomareti, Dmanisi Municipality. It is known by several names.

In the southeastern part of the Chochiani nave stands the Church of St. George. It has southern and northern buildings. The roof of the church has collapsed. Trees grow in the interior. Red-painted paintings have survived at the entrance to the northern nave. The monument dates back to the High Middle Ages. The second church in Chochiani (known as Tamar's Chapel, Middle Ages), above the southern door of which a cross is carved. On the colored stone installed on the eastern facade is an inscription in Asomtavruli: "Tamar is the right chapel of God. Christ will forgive Shio and his brothers Peter and Simon, who built this church. May God forgive Peter." This construction inscription in Chochiani is dated 1184-1210. According to Ekvtime Takaishvili, the text ends with an inscription mentioning one of Shio's brothers, Petre. However, it is possible to open "PS" as Patron and assume that the end of the text is an inscription mentioning "Patron", that is, Queen Tamar. The inscription is badly damaged by moss and several graphemes, especially the middle part of the inscription, are illegible.
