Katskhi Fortress

Katskhi Fortress is located in Upper Imereti, in the village of Katskhi, Chiatura Municipality, on the right bank of the Katskhi River.

The name “Katskhi Castle” is found in sources from the late feudal period. The castle was originally owned by the Baghvash clan. After their expulsion, it came under the authority of the king.

It belonged to the Abashidze feudal family from the 1760s, and since 1753 it has been under the royal authority of Solomon I. Its ruins have survived to this day.
