Samtskhe-Javakheti Historical Museum

Ivane Javakhishvili Samtskhe-Javakheti Historical Museum is located in the city of Akhaltsikhe , Georgia. The Samtskhe-Javakheti Historical Museum was founded in Akhaltsikhe in 1923, on the basis of which the Museum of Local Lore was opened in 1937. In 1972, the museum was named after Ivane Javakhishvili. It is of historical classification. The museum collects a significant part of the cultural heritage of the region: ancient manuscripts, epigraphic, archaeological, numismatic, ethnographic materials and photo-documents. Currently, more than 25 thousand exhibits are preserved in the museum's funds, including a fund of manuscripts and old printed books. A special place is occupied by Georgian lapidary specimens and carpet-rug exhibitions. State control is exercised by the Ministry of Culture, Monument Protection and Sports of Georgia.
