Sokhumi Botanical Garden is located in the city of Sokhumi, Abkhazia. Currently, the territory of Abkhazia is occupied by Russia. The Botanical Garden was established in 1840 and is one of the oldest in the Caucasus. Its establishment is connected with the commander of the Russian Black Sea fortification line - Nikolai Rayevsky. In 1853-55 and 1877-78, during the Russo-Turkish war, the Sukhumi Botanical Garden was cut down by the Turks, and in 1894, plant restoration work began. Today the Botanical Garden has five sections: Flora, Introduction, Floriculture, Dendrology, and Plant Protection. There are more than 4,500 species of plants from different parts of the world. Sokhumi Botanical Garden attracts a lot of people with a variety of unique plants, pools, hiking trails, and recreation areas, it is one of the most popular sights of the city.
