Tsikhisdzhvari- The historical fortress in the south of Georgia, in Borjomi municipality, at the head of the Shavtskala river, in the village of Tsikhisdzhvari.
Today, there is almost nothing left of Tsikhisdzhvari fortress. Formerly, a fortress was built on a rocky hill and a church stood inside the fortress. Hence the name of the fortress and the nearest village Tsikhisdzhvari.
Tsikhisdzhvari was an important strategic point at the intersection of Samtskhe, Javakheti, Sadgeri gorge and Gujareti. In the late feudal period, the fortress belonged to the Avalishvili family.
