About Uzungol Lake
Uzungöl (Turkish: Uzungöl — "Long Lake") — a lake in Turkey, in the Trabzon province, 99 km south of the city of Trabzon. It is located between high mountains, at an altitude of 1090 m above sea level. The surface area is 0.2 km², the maximum depth is 15 m. It is of landslide origin. The water level and area of Uzungöl fluctuate depending on the season and year. The water of the lake is fresh. There is a village of the same name on its shore. It is a popular tourist attraction. In 2008, the Turkish government built a concrete barrier along the shore of the lake, which prevents the roads around the lake from getting wet. This was followed by protests from locals and environmentalists, who said that Uzungöl had become like a giant artificial pond, which could lead to environmental degradation.
Today, Lake Uzungol is very popular, the infrastructure is well-developed, and there are many hotels, cafes, restaurants, and entertainment venues around the lake.
