Gurjaani - town in eastern Georgia, Gurjaani municipality administrative center. Located in Kakheti region, Alazani Valley, on Bakurtsikhe-Telavi highway. At an altitude of 415 m above sea level.
Gurjaani is a railway knot. (Here the Tbilisi - Telavi railway line separates to the direction of Tsnori). There are wine, canning and food industry enterprises, theater, historical museum, N. Vachnadze House-Museum. Not far from the Gurjaani is located Akhtala, which is a mud-cure resort, as well as three-nave basilica of Kvelatsminda (VIII-IX centuries).
There are many historical and architectural monuments on the territory of Gurjaani municipality. Among them, one of the most important is the VIII-IX cc Georgian monument, Gurjaani Kvelatsminda, which is built with cobblestones. Also important the Georgian architectural Kvelatsminda monastery, which is located a few km away from the village of Vachnadziani.
Near the village of Vejini is located the fortress which is built with cobblestones. There are several churches inside the fortress, among them are the Amaghleba monastery and St. Mariams’ church.
In the village of Kardanakhi is preserved the Church of Sabatminda of the XIII century, that is very damaged. There is a Georgian architectural monument “Tsverdabali” near the village of Cheremi. Near is the ancient settlement.
