Sakire St. George’s church
About Sakire St. George’s church
Sakire St. George’s church is a domed church of the XIX century, located in the village of Sakire in the Borjomi district of Samtskhe-Javakheti. It is a square-shaped building in layout, which ends with the semicircular apse from the east side, and there is a bell tower from the west side, which is also an entrance to the temple. The church has a second entrance from the south as well. There are small domes on all four sides around the central dome. The temple is built of hewn stone and covered with tin. The domes and the columnar part of the bell towers are painted in blue color. The doors and windows are arched and framed. There is a legend, that the church was provided with material support by all families who had at least one son.
How to get there
The village of Sakire is located in Borjomi municipality, in the valley of the river Sakiruli, 25 km away from Borjomi. There is an asphalted road to Sakire.
