About Sami (Samni) Fortress
Sami (Samni) Fortress is a developed medieval monument, which is located in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, it is located above the village of Rveli in Borjomi municipality, at the confluence of Baniskhevi, on the range, which is raised on the left bank of the Mtkvari River. It controls Baniskhevi and the Mtkvari Gorge for a long distance. The fortress is rectangular in the layout, with the rounded abutment in the corners. There is an entrance to all the round abutment from the inner fortress, except for the north castle. The fortress is built with well-fitted cabble stone. There is an architrave entrance to the north abutment, the back part of which is covered with wooden poles. The formation of the inner walls are similar to the facades. In the southwestern abutment, at the bottom of the wall is a ceramic tube which is 7 cm in diameter.
The fortress is characterized by signs of the mid-feudal period. It is built on a naturally protected, strategic location, which indicates its great importance.
How to get there
The village of Rveli is located in Borjomi municipality, on the right bank of the river Mtkvari, 7 km away from Borjomi. An asphalted road leads to the village. The road to the fortress is 1 km by foot.
