The Church of Saint Theodore in Akhalkalaki (Kaspi)

The Church of Saint Theodore in Akhalkalaki is located in the Shida Kartli region, Kaspi Municipality, in the center of the village of Akhalkalaki. It dates back to the 19th century. This is a hall building, built of cobblestone and crushed stone. In the interior of the church to the east, there is a semicircular apse. The altar is separated from the main space by the iconostasis. The iconostasis has been made recently. The temple is covered with a semi-cylindrical vault based on a single arch and longitudinal walls. The arch rests on pilasters. In the center of the apse, there is a large window, on both sides of which there is one niche. There are two quite large windows in the south and north walls and two entrances, to the west and north. Both the windows and the entrances are decorated with arches supported by pilasters. Pilasters have ornamental capitals. On three sides of the western wall, there is a gazebo with arches and on the fourth side, there is an entrance door to the temple. The pillars on which the arches rest have simple bases and capitals. In the center of the pediment of the same facade, there is a bell tower gazebo. The gazebo of the bell tower on all four sides has arches supported by round columns and has a pyramid roof. The church is covered with tiles.
