About Zanavi church of Saint George
Zanavi church of Saint George is a XIX century monument. It is located in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, in the village of Zanavi, Borjomi municipality, in the upper part of the village, at the cemetery. The church is a hall type and the inner space ends with a semicircular apse to the east. The arched iconostasis divides the apse from the hall. The building is almost completely plastered from the outside, and the interior is painted. Only the frames of the entrances are not plastered. The building is lit to the five interiors with inclined window jamb, two of which are located on longitudinal walls, and one in the altar. The church has two entrances, from the west it is rectangular and from the south, it is decorated with the arched iconostasis, on top of which is a relief image of the cross. According to the decoration of the entrances, which are not plastered, and the interior space, the temple must be built by Greek masters.
How to get there
The village of Zanavi is located in the municipality of Borjomi, in the Borjomi Gorge, on the left bank of the Mtkvari River, 9 km away from Borjomi. Asphalt road goes to Zanavi.
