About Black Rock Lakes - 3 Day Trekking Tour
Day1: Tbilisi-Lagodekhi National Park - Meteo Station Shelter
Driving distance: 160 km. Walking Distance: 12 km. 7 hours.
Starting elevation: 500 m. Ending elevation: 1950 m
We start our journey early morning from Tbilisi, after 3 hours of driving, arrive at the Lagodekhi National Park Administration Office. We will register and start our trek.
On this day, we have to overcome the longest ascent of our trip. We will come across unique hornbeam stands, which are rather rare in the Caucasus.
In about 1.5 hours, we get to the beginning of the ridge in untouchable beech stands, where we can observe beech forest on the north and mixed, broad-leaved forest on the south-east. In 4 hours, you will appear in a sub-alpine zone—high hills, shallow maple stands. Soon we will reach Meteo Station Shelter.
Day 2: Meteo Station Shelter – Black Rock Lakes - Demidov’s Tourist Shelter.
Walking distance: 16 km. 8 hours.
Starting elevation: 1950 m. Maximum elevation: 2950 m. Ending elevation: 2650m
On the second day, we cross a narrow mountain pass into the alpine meadows. If you are lucky, you may see rare animals such as deer, wild goats, chamois, grouses, Caucasian snowcocks, and eagles.
After several hours of hiking, we come across little alpine lakes and wetlands embroidered by the magic of nature from the glacial age. Soon, Black Rock Lake will spread in front of us.
In the evening, you will find yourself at Demidov Shelter after passing 3 kilometers. The shelter is located 2650 meters above sea level on alpine meadows. You will enjoy an extremely beautiful view of Lagodekhi, Alazani Valleys and Caucasus Range.
Day 3: Demidov’s Tourist Shelter – Lagodekhi – Tbilisi
Walking distance: 15 km. 6 hours.
Starting elevation: 2650 m. Ending elevation: 500m
On your way back to the administration building, you will cross Kudigori Rindge, which is distinguished by its untouched forest and beautiful panoramic views. On the way, there are beautiful peonies, red beech, and blackberry bushes. After a 6-hour steep descent, we will be back at the Lagodekhi National Park Administration Office. Our transport, with a driver, will wait for us, to take us back to Tbilisi.
