The garden occupies an area of ​​up to ten hectares. Decades ago, much of the area was covered by subalpine forest. The area of ​​the Goderdzi Alpine Garden is characterized by a variety of habitats. Here are represented forest, meadow, lake, swamp and rocky ecotype.

The purpose of Goderdzi Alpine Garden is to facilitate the gathering of the collection of high mountain local plants in the Alpine Garden, its documentation and use for scientific, educational and cognitive purposes, to ensure the conservation, protection and preservation of endangered plants for future generations.

The foundation of Goderdzi Alpine Garden was laid in 2012, the garden is gradually being developed.

One of the important components of the alpine garden is the stone garden, which in some cases is represented in the alpine zone as a rocky place. Helmut Wisnet, a gardener at the Munich Botanical Garden, is working on it with Georgian specialists.


Flora

The collection of Goderdzi Alpine Garden plants is quite diverse, mainly represented by aboriginal species. There are currently six species of woody and up to one hundred species of herbaceous plants in the alpine garden area.
