The Ski Tracks
The natural conditions of Gudauri were the primal prerequisite for establishing a ski resort. The first ski lift was built in 1988. Today, there are 14 ski lifts, and most of them are built by the world’s famous manufacturer of ski lifts, as “Doppelmayr”. The bottom ski lift is 1993 meters MSL, and the upper one is 3276 meters MSL. The opening hours for the ski lifts are from 10:00 AM to 16:30 PM.
Gudauri ski tracks are for everyone, despite the skiing ability level. The overall length of the ski tracks is 70 Kilometers, which includes 20 ski tracks. The skiing tracks are divided by the level of difficulty. There are the appropriate ski tracks for the beginners, intermediate, advanced and professional skiers. There are many hotels in Gudauri. Most of them are very nice and comfortable. The prices are higher than usual in the period of the New Year holiday. There are many good places for eating also. Some of the restaurants are located close to the skiing tracks. It’s very convenient for skiers, but usually, there are many people and poor services.
Since 2016, the ski patrols have been working to secure the safety of the skiers. They are experienced and professionals. They can do first aid.
Gudauri ski resort came into existence 30 years ago. Today, the development plan grows the popularity of the resort not only in Georgia but even beyond. Gudauri ski resort offers a lot of opportunities and different kind of activities to people.
The main priorities of Gudauri are the close location and many types of ski tracks. Therefore, Gudauri has become one of the most visiting places at the weekends for Georgians. One day for spending the time in Gudauri is quite enough. It’s possible to start the journey at 08:00 AM, then to continue ski in Gudauri and to be back in Tbilisi at 19:00 PM.
The negative side of Gudauri is that there are many people on weekends. The skiing tracks are crowded at the weekends, and there are long queues at the cashier’s office. The prices at the hotels and in the restaurants are higher than in other ski resorts of Georgia. In a nutshell, if you have 4 - 5 days, it would be better to visit Hatsvali or Goderdzi ski resort.

I love to ski in Gudauri because it's very close to Tbilisi and you can get there in the morning and come back by evening. But it's always crowded at weekends. You can't find fresh snow anywhere. Quality of snow is not good because large snow falls are coming only several times during winter. Snow is ripped off the track after 1 PM. Also prices in the restaurants are very high compared to other places in Georgia. Hotels are super expensive, I always go back to Tbilisi and coming back next day. Staff in rental is very rude for Georgians because they don't expect much money from locals. But they are respectful for foreigners. Everyone tries to make money from everything, they don't even give you a glass of water for free.
But it's still best option if you have only one or two days for skiing, because it's very close to the capital and road is always open.
I hate profiteering gluttons from Gudauri, and I wish, one day they will be drown in their money.
