Balneological Resorts in Georgia

Category: Interesting Places

Georgia is rich in mountain and lowland resorts with healing properties. The abundance of resorts is logical, considering the climatic conditions of the country and more than 2,000 healing waters found in the area. Mineral waters are the most effective way to deal with various diseases.

Balneotherapy or treatment with mineral waters is one of the most popular procedures and has a great impact on the human body. The name "balneotherapy" is derived from the Latin word balneum - bath, bathing and from the Greek word therapy - treatment. Despite the country's balneological resources and useful features of the resorts, medical tourism is still in the process of development. Spa resorts, sanatoriums, hotels, and spa centers, regularly offer balneotherapy and various types of rehabilitation-preventive services to locals and foreign guests.

If you want the refreshment procedures or just get rid of the daily routine, we offer several major balneological resorts in Georgia.

Tskaltubo

Tskaltubo is one of the most famous resorts in Georgia. The main healing factor of Tskaltubo resort is radon-rich thermal mineral water, which cures about 60 diseases. Tskaltubo spa resort has individual programs according to which you will be prescribed therapeutic baths, massage, physiotherapy, or other procedures.

Tskaltubo Spa Resort is located 15 km away from Kutaisi.

Tskaltubo was considered a healing place back in the XII-XIII centuries. Tskaltubo was granted the status of a balneological resort in 1920 when it became state-owned. Many famous people have had vacations here, including Joseph Stalin, who had a personal room. It is a resort of global importance. Tskaltubo is located in western Georgia at 95-120 meters above sea level. If there truly exists a "spring of immortality" somewhere, a real, not fairytale one - it flows out of the Tskaltubo land. Here come the people with several diseases, who can not walk independently. After a treatment course consisting of 25-30 baths, they forget that they were brought to Tskaltubo on a stretcher.

In Tskaltubo resort special techniques for taking a bath are used. The peculiarity of taking a bath is that the treatment is carried out constantly in running water, thus the water fully retains its physicochemical and healing properties and temperature.

Tskaltubo healing water has long been a symbol of healthy living. The debit of mineral water varies depending on the time of year and is about 13-15 million liters in 24 hours. The natural temperature of the water (+ 33°C; -35°C) allows using it without heating. Water in the baths flows directly from the springs, without the use of pumps. Thus water constantly maintains its physicochemical and healing properties and the temperature does not contain toxic substances. Consequently, the age of the vacationers is not limited either.

At the resort, it is possible to treat diseases such as diseases of the extremities, peripheral nervous system, heart and blood vessels, metabolic disorders, skin, endocrine system, and gynecological diseases.
