Snowy places near Tbilisi

Winter is the most magical time of the year. Snow-covered environment, throwing snowballs, sliding and joy are an integral part of winter. Georgia is rich in mountains and of course, we have a variety of ski resorts too. However, it is not necessary to go far to see the snow, to throw snowballs, or even just to have fun.

We have selected the most popular snowy places in the suburbs of Tbilisi where you will be able to avoid city noise, routine, enjoy nature and the snowy environment.

1. Kojori

Kojori is located 20 kilometers from Tbilisi, at 1350 meters above sea level. While the temperature in our capital is 0º and it is raining, it is snowing beautifully in Kojori at this time. Kojori is an ideal place for families with children, as there are parks with suitable infrastructure for children.

In addition to the beautiful snow-covered forests in Kojori, you should definitely visit Kojori fortress (Koroghli fortress), from where you can enjoy the stunning views of Kvemo Kartli. Be sure to dress warmly, stock up on snacks and enjoy the beautiful snowy environment.

2. Sabaduri Forest

Sabaduri forest is located in Mtskheta-Mtianeti municipality and it is only 40 km away from Tbilisi. Sabaduri forest is very popular at any time of the year. If you visit the Sabaduri forest in winter, you will feel as if you are in a fairy tale. Beautiful serpentines, misty forest, giant, snow-covered trees, fog and winter frost create an amazing atmosphere.

If you decide to visit the Sabaduri forest, then on the way you can stop at the Tskhvarichamia Ascension Church built in the 7th century.

The asphalt road goes to Sabaduri forest, however, due to the snow the road may be icy and it is necessary to put winter tires on the car.

3. Didgori Monument

Didgori monument is located in Kvemo Kartli, Tetritskaro Municipality, 56 km away from Tbilisi. Didgori Monument is dedicated to one of the most important and famous battles in the history of Georgia, held in 1121, the Battle of Didgori. A good road goes to the monument. In order to arrive there, you need your own car.

If you decide to go to Didgori from the side of Tskneti, on the way you can visit the Orbeti Church of Virgin Mary.

4. Gudauri

Gudauri is everyone's favorite ski resort, which is located closest to Tbilisi, about 120 kilometers away from the capital. It is located at 2200 meters above sea level. The winter season in Gudauri lasts from December to March. Gudauri is equipped with suitable infrastructure for snow and ski lovers. There are currently 14 working lines of the cable car in Gudauri. The main advantage of Gudauri is its proximity to Tbilisi and the variety of tracks. Because of this, Gudauri has become the best place to spend the weekend for Tbilisi residents. They often come here for a day. You can leave at 8 a.m by your own car to ski and at 7 p.m be already in Tbilisi.
